While listening to the ocean on Cape Cod, I've often been reminded of the cadences of Matthew Arnold's poem "Dover Beach," written in England and first published there in 1867

Sometimes a scene in nature will evoke a phrase or a poem that I have learned. One of my favorite poets is Robert Frost, and long ago I memorized his "The Sound of Trees." One day the wind in the trees outside my house in Cheney, Washington, reminded me of this poem, and so I filmed the scene and read in the words.
